Almost time to breathe a big sigh of relief. The grant I’ve been working on for what feels like forever (but in reality was only about 4 weeks) is about to be submitted. Just waiting on the last few signatures and red-tape procedures which fingers-crossed should be all wrapped up today. I can finally get back a bit of work-life balance and have my evenings and weekends back to myself again.
This past weekend was very stressful for a totally different reason too. Boomer hurt his leg/back when he missed a jump on to the bed and ended up shrieking in pain. I freaked out! I can’t even imagine how I would feel if/when my child hurts itself considering how upset I was hearing my puppy hurt. What an awful sound. The good news is that the vet said nothing was broken, just really sore and gave the pup some pain medication. Bad news that pain medic ation made Boomer so sleepy that he spent all weekend in his crate cuddled up with his toys.
In the almost 2 years we’ve had Boomer he was never ever gone into his crate to nap. He sleeps in it when we’re not at home but when we’re there he’s by our side on the couch or following us from room to room…or most likely running around the back yard. So seeing him lying there looking so sorry for himself really worried me.
Now this morning he seems much better. He’s off the meds and running around and playing again, and acting more like the mischievous little fellow I know and love. I don’t think he’ll be back as my running buddy until at least next week though (or longer, we'll see how he is). Speaking on the running – the last 2 weeks have pretty good. The mid-week runs have all been fine but I had a terrible 6-mile run 2 weekends ago. I went to a different park and listened to my audiobook instead of music. I don’t know if it was listening to the book, or running in a slightly hilly envirionment but the run sucked! I was running so slowly, struggling mentally and feeling so horrible that it was just awful – 6 miles in 1:08 :(
Then I missed my run on Friday evening because of Boomer’s incident so I was a little worried that Sunday’s 7 mile run would be just as awful as the week before but it wasn’t, it was great. Yes I just wrote that I had a great run! Crazy huh. I ran a good pace and most importantly I finished strong running the last mile a whole minute faster than the previous 6. This now marks the "third of the way through the training" point. Over the next month the long distance increases up to 10 miles…ahhhh!
So after 4 weeks of training my longest run was 7 miles which took me 1:11 hours, my fastest mile was a 9:32 and I’ve run a total of 57 miles.
