My friend and I brought our dogs to a Howlowe’en dog party which was organized by a local dog park. It sounded cheesy and fun so we decided to go along. It was crazy!
They were holding a pet costume contest which was hilarious and cute to watch. I loved how some people went all in – there was one family who dressed up their 3 kids and 2 dogs in matching ninja turtles outfits. I’m not really into the pet costume thing personally but I could see it being great fun if you are – Boomer wasn’t the only dog who didn’t come in costume either, not that he’d really cared anyway!
The activities were fun as well. First up was a paw prints station where you could get your pups paw print on paper. That worked great for my friend and her dog but Boomer was less cooperative (I don’t blame him) and all we got were some smudges on a page!
Then there was free dog treats including doggie ice-cream which Boomer devoured in 2 seconds flat and lastly they had a photo booth. I’m not going to lie I was a bit disappointed when I realized the “booth” was not in fact the photo-strip producing kind of booth because I thought taking photos with the dog in one of those would have been hilarious but instead we posed on a hay bale.
I have never seen so many dogs all in the one smallish area at the same time – there were easily 50 dogs there, not to mention the families and friends etc. I can imagine it being a really over-whelming experience for dogs to be around so many different dogs all at the same time. Boomer does great with other dogs but at one point he was surrounded by 6 dogs all trying to sniff and play with each other (while all being leashed) and I could tell when he needed a breather. We sat a bit further away from the melee and had great fun meeting dogs as they walked past.
We were there for about 90 mins and those 90 mins was enough to tire this pup out for the rest of Saturday and all day Sunday. No amount of walking or running has the same effect as meeting a ton of new dogs and people. If only there was a dog party every weekend!
