Another weekend roadtrip and this time it was to a town called Dawsonville in Georgia. I’d never been to Georgia before and honestly I didn’t really even see that much of it on this trip. We were going because Kathy had a race there and we’d seen that there was some good hiking nearby so it seemed like a good fit for a weekend trip.
But we were exhausted! I don’t think we’d fully recovered from our travels the previous week. So after arriving to the best western hotel (which wasn’t great) on Friday evening we stopped into the Dunkin Donuts next door – which was easily the best thing about the hotel – and got some free donuts to celebrate National Donut Day and then we hit the hay.
We had a super early start the next morning (5am) to bring Kathy to her race. This race was not a great one for spectators, after waving the runners off at the start there was no point on the course to see them pass so Boomer and I found ourselves back in the car with two hours to kill – not fun at 7am. We did have a great view of the finish though. And we got a super quick tour of the Dawsonville racing hall of fame which was kinda cool. Kathy did great in her race so we headed out for an early lunch, a mid-morning nap and then some shopping. We had no idea that we’d managed to pick a hotel that was right next to (as in walking distance) to a big outlet. Clothes shopping!
(They started playing the theme tune to Dawson's Creek while we were walking around the outlets and I couldn't tell if it was a coincidence or if someone was just having fun but either say I found it pretty hilarious)
All talk of hiking went out the window and we settled for some shopping (while we took turns waiting outside with Boomer), during which I finally managed to get the striped maxi skirt I've had my eye on forever, followed by crashing in the hotel to start watching the new season on Orange is the New Black.
That might not sound like the most exciting weekend but it was one of the best weekends I’ve had in a long time.
