Boomer officially became a teenager this weekend and it has nothing to do with the fact that he’s currently 16 months old and everything to do with him not being able to get out of bed this morning. I can’t believe that this is the same fellow who used to have me up every morning at 6.30 am full of beans and ready to play. And I won’t lie it is a most welcome change!
I’m not too surprised that he’s tired though because we’ve have a super busy weekend. On Friday evening I went to a friend’s house for Mexican food and a few drinks and brought Boomer to play with their 6 month old Doberman puppy who is so rambunctious and playful (and 3 times the size of Boomer)that Boomer was exhausted in no time at all.
Saturday morning we got up bright and early and headed to See Spot Run – a 1k family walk in the park with your dogs in aid of the humane society. We got so much free toys, treats and cute bandanas and Boomer must have met at least 50 dogs (not to mention all the people too). We headed home; I packed up the car with garden chairs, a cooler and my picnic blanket and basket while Boomer slept. Good thing he slept while he could because he spent the next couple of hours playing with children and trying to chase ducks at a picnic by the lake with my co-workers and their families.
I imagined that Sunday would be quieter for us all, but then my friend brought over the adorable little puppy that she just collected for her parents – a little Cocker Spaniel puppy that looks and acts just a bold and brave as Boomer did when he was that size. Boomer was a little too excited to be fully trusted around something so tiny so they met through a gate and then with Boomer on the floor and the puppy being safely held – can’t be too careful. He was really sweet with her and of course my brain went “awh let’s get another puppy” but then she chewed my fingers, tried to chew the dining room chairs and ran around like crazy and I remembered that puppies are so much work! Boy did it make me appreciate my now teenage dog all the more!
Last but not least last night we went to go see Game of Thrones with my friends (since I don’t have cable), and Boomer got to play with the Doberman pup again.
So it’s no wonder the poor thing couldn’t get out of bed this morning!
