Phew I thinking I’m finally starting to recover from the weekend, although for the past two days I’ve barely been able to keep my eyes open in work let alone get anything productive done.Thank you so much for all the lovely comments you guys left me yesterday - I was smiling all day long because of them!!
Last weekend was not only the half-marathon race weekend, it was also a race weekend that happened to be over 2 hours away from home – so it was our first road trip of many we plan to take in 2014. The destination last weekend was Bluffton SC and because I had done zero research for the weekend (except freaking out about making sure I knew where the race was taking place) I had zero expectations for the rest of the weekend’s activities but oh Bluffton I’m smitten!
On the Saturday afternoon after race packet pickup we looked at the map and drove towards what looked like the town centre of Bluffton and then just drove around and pulled whenever we saw something interesting - like this beautiful church called “The Church of the Cross” which looks out over the May River.
Then we stumbled across a street in Old Town Bluffton that was lined with little art galleries, crazy collections of country knick knacks, little cafés and shops.
On Sunday after the race and a post-race brunch in Truffles Café (which was fantastic – get the homemade raspberry lemonade because it is devine and you’ll have dreams about how tasty it is). Then with stomachs fill to bursting point we drove for 15 mins to get to the beach. Yep I lay on the beach in beautiful hot sunshine at the start of March, oh if the people of Ireland could see me now!
Then it was off to the outlets to buy some last minutes presents for my upcoming trip home to Ireland and some “grown-up” clothes to wear to a conference I have coming up in April and then the 2 and half hour drive home. Like I said an exhausting weekend.
Bluffton and Hilton Head is definitely going on the list of places to re-visit again in the next few weeks/months, in fact I think it’s going to be a very strong contender for a weekend beach trip soon. Nothing beats sunshine in March!
