I tried again making my own this time following a non-weightwatchers recipe and realised exactly where the old recipe was going wrong, they cut out the tahini, which is where most of the points are but also where all of the flavour is.
I’d actually never heard of tahini before, which made shopping for it interesting – I spent ages in the spice section thinking it was like cumin – so for anyone like me it is a thick paste of sesame seeds.
I adjusted the recipe slightly to use lime juice instead of lemon juice purely because I had a lime and no lemons – it worked perfectly! I pointed the recipe as 2 pts for a big, heaped tablespoon which is totally worth the 2 pts.
I’ve been eating this like it’s going out of fashion – on fresh bread, with peppers and carrots dipped in, on burgers instead of mayo…. I brought this hummus and some artichoke dip (made properly) out on a boat trip on the 4th and they went down a treat with my friends so I'm not the only fan.
Next time I’m going to try making some alternatives like roasted red pepper etc so when I do I’ll share all the adaptions to the recipe with you. Until then I’m seriously never going to buy hummus again because this is cheaper and tastier!
