Just back from a weekend camping trip to Table Rock State Park in South Carolina, and once I hit the showers I started to feel human again. Camping is so much fun but dirt ends up everywhere! It feels great to come home and scrub it all off! (of course there are showers in the camp grounds but nothing beats a shower in your own bathroom).
Table Rock was fantastic, no other words for it really. I've been looking forward to this trip for weeks, every picture I've seen online of the park just looked so great I was almost worried it wouldn't live up to expectation but it exceeded it. There were so many trails to hike - we did 2 which we figured was about the most we could expect from Boomer (he's still so young).
The trails were really fun - I was curious as to what "moderatively difficult" means in terms of a trail, it ended up that part of the trail crossed a stream a few times - we climbed over collasped logs and stepped along tree roots. It was pretty strenous but really enjoyable.
The best part of hiking the trails....
Easy, hands down the best part were the views! There were numerous waterfalls along one of the trails which lead to a fantastic place to view Table Rock itself. The second trail lead to a view of a massive waterfall where we stopped for a while to rest up....and Boomer showered best friend with kisses.
and the worst part about the trails....
Easy again! The wildlife, and boy did we see enough of it....a lizard-ish thing (I won't even pretend to know the name of it)....multiple spiders, weird bugs and my first ever snake sighting which was actually kinda cool (once someone had reassured me that it wasn't poisonous!). So when you consider all those different critters you can probably guess that we were a bit freaked out about what could be lurking around the next bend and we had to be really careful to watch where we (and especially Boomer) were walking! But at least we didn't see bears....and the butterflies were pretty.
Also we had the best campfire I've ever had this weekend. We went to Table Rock Country Store and I asked for firewood, the guy in the store packed the trunk with enough wood for 7 bours of burning for $10 (and hints on the best way to make it last!). Our campsite was very close to a stream so we heard soft trickling water sounds as we slept - very relaxing.
Oh and tried making s'mores with some of our Irish chocolate and wow, wow, wow heaven.....
I had an awesome weekend and I'm definitely going to head back to Table Rock again soon to try out the other trails - hope you had fun this weekend too :)
