I saw this filing cabinet in a thrift store recently with a $35 price tag on it – I managed to get it for $20 instead and was delighted with myself. It’s a great size for a filing cabinet, not too tall and the shelves are really deep so I thought it would be perfect for storing all my craft supplies.
We had quite a few problems trying to fit it into the car to bring it home though. After a lot of manoeuvring, sweating and swearing we managed to fit it into our little two door car (it got to ride shotgun with best friend while I rode in the back!). I can only imagine what we looked like!
My first attempt at spray painting wasn’t great I have to say….I sprayed a little too heavily in some places and completely under-estimated the amount of paint required to fully coat a cabinet this size – (as in I bought one can).
So after exhausting my one can of paint before even finishing one full coat the cabinet sat in the living room waiting for a thunderstorm-free evening for me to finish painting it.
I bought 3 more cans of paint and probably used about 2 and half of them to fully paint the cabinet. I left it outside in the shed to dry overnight, which turned into a few days….partly because of the weather but mostly because I has hesitating about the pattern to stencil on it. Honestly I was just worried I'm mess it up or make it look a bit naff.
Then last Saturday in the space of about an hour I just did it – I didn’t hesitate or overthink the placement of the pattern I just went for it and I’m so happy with how it turned out.
I’m delighted to have somewhere to keep my supplies safe from this little monster!
So there you have it - my filing cabinet make over, I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. What do you think?
