Canvas photos…..I have wanted canvas photos on my wall for the longest time! I’ve priced it up on so many occasions but I just can’t justify sending upwards of $20 per print for an 8x10. Then something wonderful happened, I discovered pinterest and realised that everything I’ve ever wanted to make or do someone somewhere has created a perfect tutorial for it…Yay!
You know how sometimes you’ll pin stuff and think I’ll do that and then forget about it until the next time you see the pin whereby you try to repin it again! No….maybe you’re not as lazy as me about actually doing/making the things you pin!
But every so often I spot a pin, and then immediately drop everything to make it. This was one of those projects. I loved it – very easy to do and the first result looks pretty great to me.
The tutorial I found has step by step instructions for adding photos to wooden boards as fake canvases but I actually had two 8x10 blank canvases so I used them instead. Honestly, such an easy project:
1: Gather supplies – Modpodge, black paint, canvas and a photo
2: Paint the edges of the canvas black
3: Attach the photo with mod-podge
4: Apply a thin layer of mod-podge to the surface of the photo covering all the edges (try not to freak out about how awful the photo looks after this step – it dries streak-free I promise!)
5: Admire your new DIY canvas photo print, and wish that you’d been the one to invent pinterest!
So as with the other art work I’ve been making for my room , they haven’t quite made it on to the wall yet because I haven’t worked out what’s going where exactly but I’ve got plans – boy do I have plans!! – I’m off to make more stuff for the walls!
[Oh and just in case you were wondering what the photos are of, since its a little hard to see the black and white clearly - one is the view from the top of Croagh Patrick and the other is me and Boomer on walking on Edisto Beach]
Oh and thanks so much for the lovely comments on yesterdays post :)
