Some friendship develop instantly....call it like at first sight....other friendships can develop from what appeared to be a bad start, an unlikely friendship, in that neither party ever really expected to be friends.
I for one, never expected when I got a puppy that his best friend would end up being the cat. I guess cats and dogs being friends isn't that unusual when they grow up in the same house but the fact that I don't actually own a cat is what really makes this friendship unlikely.
The cat, which I call Kitty (imaginative I know - but I've no idea if its a male or female, I just assume its a female cat called Kitty) was definetely the one to make the first move. In fact, she sort of stalked Boomer when we first got him. When we took him out to the garden she would watch him for ages and then suddenly come racing over - I was worried that the cat thought he was a strange looking rabbit, so I'd snatch him up off the ground.
One day I took my eyes off him for a second and this happened....
[don't worry best friend was there too and we were watching them very closely to make sure things were friendly]
At first he didn't really know what to make of this cat that wanted to play with him every day but it didn't take long for them to become best friends
She's a sweet cat and we have no idea who owns her, but I think its adorable that she runs over everyday to play with the puppy. She's thought him a lot about how to play nicely, although I don't really appreciate her teaching him to stalk birds.
Keep trying Boomer, and even if it doesn't work out at least you'll always have Kitty to play with
